Cloudburst Brewing How the Wet Was Won
This vibrant West Coast IPA, a collaboration between Cloudburst and Balter, celebrates the harvest with an intense wet hop profile. The use of fresh, unkilned hops creates a distinctively bright and leafy sensory experience. Citra and Cascade hops drive a punchy citrus core of tangerine and grapefruit, while the addition of Cashmere introduces nuanced notes of lemon and wild berry. A resinous spruce tip character provides a rugged, forest-like depth typical of fresh-picked hops. Clean malts offer a lean, cracker-like foundation, allowing the 7.1% ABV and assertive bitterness to shine through a crisp, dry finish that captures the essence of the Pacific Northwest hop fields.
Appearance. Deep gold to pale amber (7–9 SRM) with brilliant clarity. Pours with a persistent, frothy white head that exhibits excellent retention and leaves thick lacing on the glass.
Aroma. High intensity aroma of fresh, resinous pine and spruce tips. Dominant citrus notes of tangerine zest and grapefruit are complemented by light berry esters and a hint of lemon peel. Very low, clean, bready malt provides a neutral background.
Taste. Bold hop-forward flavor featuring oily citrus, grapefruit pith, and a unique leafy, green hop character. Moderate berry sweetness from the hops is quickly balanced by a firm, assertive bitterness. The malt profile is minimal, suggesting light cracker and toasted grain. Finishes very dry and clean with a lingering resinous and citrusy aftertaste.
Mouthfeel. Medium-light body with a smooth, crisp texture. Carbonation is medium-high, providing a lively mouthfeel. A light, well-integrated alcohol warmth is present but remains smooth without any harshness or astringency.

These cowboy convicts from Down Under rode their horses through the Pacific Ocean AND across the equator just so that they could get in on our WET HOP ACTION. We battled over Citra at Loftus Ranches and Perrault Farms, then we duked it out over Cascade from Roy Farms, and we scuffled for some Cashmere at CLS Farms too. And after all that, we forgot what we were fighting for, so we combined forces to make one helluva modern West Coast IPA with all the fruits of our labor. The end result is a bright and leafy beverage with a trough full of tangerine, grapefruit, lemon, berry and spruce tips. Better buckle up those britches and sidle up to the bar before this beer rides off into the sunset.
