Cloudburst Brewing Finding Wetness
This collaborative American IPA captures the vibrant essence of the Yakima harvest through the lens of fresh Simcoe and Citra. The sensory profile is defined by a saturated, oily hop depth characteristic of wet hops, offering an intense bouquet of resinous pine and passion fruit from the Simcoe, layered with bright grapefruit and lime zest from the Citra. A lean, grainy malt backbone allows these complex tropical and forest-like flavors to remain the focal point. It finishes crisp and decidedly dry with a lingering, clean bitterness, epitomizing a modern, hop-focused profile with exceptional clarity and aromatic punch.
Appearance. Deep gold color (7 SRM) with brilliant clarity. Pours with a persistent, medium-sized, frothy white head that leaves intricate lacing.
Aroma. High intensity aroma dominated by fresh, resinous pine and damp earth, complemented by punchy tropical mango, citrus peel, and crushed gooseberry. Low, clean, bready malt sweetness provides a subtle foundation with a neutral fermentation profile.
Taste. Initial impression is a punch of grapefruit and resinous hop oils. The mid-palate reveals layers of tangerine and stone fruit supported by low, grainy-sweet malt. Bitterness is firm and clean, leading into a dry, snappy finish. The aftertaste is long and hoppy, showcasing the unique green character of harvest-fresh hops.
Mouthfeel. Medium body with a smooth, slightly oily texture from the hop resins. Moderate to high carbonation provides a crisp bite. Alcohol warmth is very light and well-integrated.

When Matt Brynildson, world-renowned Brewmaster of FW, wants to tag along on a wet hop brew day, there is only one thing to say: “OK!” (not, “Are you sure?” Or, “Do you mean us, us?”) And so, the day before the brew we found ourselves driving around the Yakima area, in search of a couple perfectly picked varieties. First, we headed over to Mabton where Sauve & Son Farms were picking some pristine little Simcoes. Then, we came back through Moxee to visit CLS farms…who sent us all the way over to their other Wenas Farm, buried deep in the Northwest region of the valley, for some choice Citra. It was…a long day. But you know what, we had a blast (and didn’t blow our Invitational invite…that we know of…), and this beer is fantastic because we decided to chase the right varieties for the right beer. Adn old crusty would call it “going the extra mile” and we did that (many miles over), just for you.
