Cloudburst Brewing Famous Last Words
Famous Last Words is a masterfully executed German Pils that defies its IPA-focused brewhouse origins with technical precision. This lager pours a brilliant straw-gold, topped by a dense, creamy white head. The sensory experience is led by a sophisticated bouquet of traditional German hops, offering elegant floral, herbal, and spicy nuances. These hop notes are supported by a foundation of Continental Pilsner malt, contributing scents of toasted crackers and a hint of honey. On the palate, a brief grainy sweetness is rapidly overtaken by a firm, clean bitterness. Crisp and exceptionally well-attenuated, it finishes with a dry, flinty snap and a lingering floral aftertaste.
Appearance. Straw to deep yellow (2-4 SRM); brilliant clarity; creamy, long-lasting white head with excellent lacing.
Aroma. Moderately high flowery and spicy hop character; low grainy, doughy, and toasted cracker malt; clean fermentation profile with no esters or diacetyl.
Taste. Initial grainy malt sweetness is quickly suppressed by prominent hop bitterness; flavors of herbal and spicy hops; medium-high bitterness that is clean, not harsh; dry, crisp finish with a lingering minerally quality and hop bitterness in the aftertaste.
Mouthfeel. Medium-light body; medium-high carbonation; crisp and refreshing; no alcohol warmth; smooth with a slight flinty sharpness.
