Cloudburst Brewing A Little Much
This triple dry-hopped American IPA is an assertive sensory explosion, blending West Coast clarity with a saturated New Zealand hop profile. Utilizing a layered approach of Nectaron, Nelson Sauvin, and Riwaka, complemented by Mosaic and Citra Cryo pellets, the beer delivers intense aromas of passionfruit and papaya. The addition of Nelson Hop Kief amplifies the resinous depth and pungent tropicality. On the palate, a lean malt base supports sharp, firm bitterness and unique notes of tamarind and coastal beachgrass. It finishes crisp and bone-dry, showcasing a sophisticated hop saturation that pushes boundaries while maintaining brilliant clarity and a clean fermentation profile.
Appearance. Medium gold (6-7 SRM). Brilliant clarity. Tall, persistent off-white head with excellent lacing.
Aroma. High intensity hop aroma featuring prominent passionfruit, papaya, and citrus zest. Secondary notes of resinous pine and a distinct herbal, beachgrass character. Very low, clean, grainy malt; clean fermentation profile with no diacetyl.
Taste. Initial impression is a massive wave of hop flavors including tropical fruit and tangy tamarind. Medium-high bitterness is clean and assertive. Low, supportive malt flavor with minimal caramel. The finish is dry and crisp with a lingering, resinous, and hoppy aftertaste.
Mouthfeel. Medium body with a smooth, hop-saturated texture. Moderate carbonation. Light, smooth alcohol warmth is present but well-integrated. No harsh astringency despite the high hop load.

No, we did not just have a spasm writing that italicized style line. This beer is THAT…a Triple Dry-Hopped West Coast-style New Zealand India Pale Ale that will certainly have you saying “What The Fuck?” from start to finish. That’s because this whole thing is a little much, if you will. Triple dry-hopping an IPA is very California of us, and we rarely do it, save for a special occasion. But, we felt like adding dry-hops three times to the tank – first, some T-90s (Nectaron, Nelson Sauvin, & Riwaka). Then a couple days later, some Cryo pellets (Mosaic & Citra). Then a little later, some Nelson Hop Kief from Freestyle Farms. All into an already assertive IPA base. It’s clear, it’s bitter, it’s resinous, and it’s saturated with layers of flavors of passionfruit, papaya, tamarind & beachgrass. Too much? TOO MUCH?!
