Cierzo Calanda
This Double IPA showcases a sophisticated marriage between Simcoe hops and authentic Calanda peaches. The pour reveals a vibrant stone fruit character where the Simcoe hops’ natural pine and passion fruit notes seamlessly intertwine with the juicy, floral essence of the added fruit. A clean, neutral malt base allows the aromatic complexity to lead, followed by a firm, clean bitterness characteristic of the style. The 8% ABV provides a gentle, supporting warmth that enhances the perceived ripeness of the fruit, resulting in a bold, dry, and intensely aromatic experience that celebrates the agricultural heritage of Aragón.
Appearance. Deep gold to light orange with a slight haze from the natural fruit addition. Topped by a persistent, creamy off-white head with excellent lacing.
Aroma. Intense hop-forward bouquet featuring Simcoe signature pine and earthy passion fruit, significantly bolstered by fresh, floral Calanda peach aromas. Background notes of light grainy malt and a clean fermentation profile.
Taste. Dominant flavors of ripe peach and apricot meld with Simcoe resin and citrus zest. Initial soft malt sweetness is quickly overtaken by a high but smooth bitterness. The finish is remarkably dry and clean, leaving a lingering impression of hop resins and stone fruit skin.
Mouthfeel. Medium body with a smooth, almost velvety texture. Carbonation is moderate-high, providing a crisp bite. A light, well-integrated alcohol warmth is present but never harsh.
