Cierzo Brewing Co.

Siluro is a formidable Baltic Porter that belies its 10% ABV with a surprisingly approachable and smooth character. Deeply malty, it presents a rich tapestry of toasted bread, dark chocolate, and licorice. The aroma is heavy with dark fruit esters—reminiscent of plums, raisins, and cherries—intermingled with a soft, vinous warmth. On the palate, initial caramel and toffee sweetness give way to a smooth, Schwarzbier-like roast that avoids any burnt or harsh notes. Despite its strength, the beer maintains a deceptive lightness in its finish, which is dryish with a lingering hint of roasted coffee and dark currants, embodying the complex soul of this strong dark lager.

Appearance. Opaque dark brown with deep reddish-copper highlights. It features a thick, persistent, tan-colored head with excellent lacing.

Aroma. High intensity maltiness featuring deep toast, caramel, and molasses. A complex ester profile provides moderate notes of prunes, raisins, and cherries, accompanied by a clean, Port-like alcohol presence. No hop aroma or sourness.

Taste. Rich maltiness with a complex blend of toffee, nutty tones, and licorice. A smooth, roasted flavor dominates the mid-palate without being burnt. Low spicy hop flavor. Medium-low bitterness provides balance against the initial malty sweetness. The finish is dryish and smooth with a lingering aftertaste of dark dried fruits and mild roasted coffee.

Mouthfeel. Full-bodied and exceptionally smooth. Moderate to medium-high carbonation provides a mouth-filling quality that prevents the beer from feeling heavy. Noticeable but well-integrated alcohol warmth suitable for its 10% ABV.
