Cierzo / Basqueland Infrenable
This vibrant Double IPA, a collaboration between Cierzo and Basqueland, presents an intense sensory experience driven by a massive double dry-hop addition. The aromatic profile is dominated by the tropical and citrus synergy of Citra, Mosaic, and Azacca, supported by the complex herbal nuances of Ekuanot and the concentrated fruit punch of Cryo Amarillo. Its opaque golden appearance leads into a remarkably silky mouthfeel that carries the 8.4% alcohol with grace. While intensely hoppy, the beer maintains a pleasant bitterness that balances a soft malt base, finishing clean and dry with a lingering resonance of stone fruit and resin.
Appearance. Opaque golden color (SRM 6-8). Thick, creamy, off-white head with excellent persistence and dense lacing. Significant haze throughout, consistent with modern heavily dry-hopped versions.
Aroma. High intensity hop aroma featuring a complex blend of mango, pineapple, and passion fruit from Citra and Azacca, underscored by blueberry and dank resin from Mosaic. Ekuanot adds subtle herbal and lime notes, while Cryo Amarillo provides a concentrated citrus peel character. Malt is low and neutral, providing a clean, grainy backdrop. Fermentation is clean with very light fruity esters and a subtle, smooth alcohol presence.
Taste. Initial impression is a burst of tropical fruit and citrus oils. Hop flavors of tangerine, grapefruit, and stone fruit dominate the palate. Malt flavor is low, supporting the hops with a soft, cracker-like character. Bitterness is firm but pleasant and not harsh, well-integrated into the silky body. The finish is medium-dry and clean, with a lingering hoppy aftertaste of pine and tropical fruit. Minimal caramel or toast character is present, keeping the focus entirely on the hops.
Mouthfeel. Medium-full body with a notable silky and creamy texture. Moderate carbonation. A soft, restrained alcohol warmth is present but smooth, reflecting the 8.4% strength without being hot or solventy. Very low astringency despite the high hop load.
