This refreshing American Pale Ale showcases a unique blend of regional hops, merging Czech Juno, German Mandarina, and Slovenian Styrian Wolf to create a profile reminiscent of classic American varieties. The sensory experience is led by a surprisingly intense citrus bouquet, layered with a firm resinous undertone that anchors the hop presence. Underpinned by a clean, neutral malt base, the palate delivers crisp orange and grapefruit notes followed by a persistent but refined bitterness. Helena Ch. maintains high drinkability through its lean body and dry finish, capturing the spirit of a traditional old-school ale while utilizing local European agriculture.
Appearance. Deep gold to pale amber with excellent clarity (SRM 6-8). Pours with a moderately large, creamy white head that exhibits good retention and leaves fine lacing on the glass.
Aroma. Moderately high hop aroma featuring prominent notes of sweet citrus peel, tangerine, and a distinct resinous pine. Low grainy-sweet malt character provides a subtle foundation, while fermentation remains clean with very low fruity esters.
Taste. Initial hop flavors of citrus and resin dominate, supported by a low, neutral bready malt profile. The bitterness is moderate to high (approx. 40 IBU) but well-integrated, leading to a clean, medium-dry finish. No heavy caramel is present, allowing the hop-derived citrus and woodsy notes to linger pleasantly in the aftertaste.
Mouthfeel. Medium-light body with moderate to high carbonation, providing a crisp and refreshing texture. Very smooth finish with no detectable alcohol warmth or hop astringency.
