Chroust Cumulus
Chroust Cumulus is a luminous Hazy IPA that exemplifies the soft, pillowy mouthfeel of the style. The aromatic profile is dominated by a vibrant display of the Strata hop variety, which contributes intense notes of ripe tropical fruit and a distinctive strawberry character resulting from biotransformation during active fermentation. Complementing this primary hop are Citra and Enigma, which add layers of bright citrus zest and complex red fruit nuances. A soft, grainy malt base supports the massive hop presence without distraction. The palate is velvety and juice-like, offering a low perceived bitterness and a smooth, off-dry finish that prioritizes fruit-forward drinkability over sharp resinous bite.
Appearance. Deep straw to light orange (4-6 SRM). It possesses a significant, opaque haze that creates a characteristic shine rather than a murky appearance. The beer is topped with a thick, rocky, meringue-like white head with excellent retention and lacing.
Aroma. High intensity hop-forward aroma featuring prominent ripe mango and passionfruit from the Strata hops. Distinctive notes of fresh strawberry are evident, alongside zesty grapefruit and lime from Citra. Enigma provides subtle hints of red currant and pinaceous depth. The malt is neutral and lightly bready, serving only as a clean canvas for the hops.
Taste. Explodes with tropical fruit juice flavors. Initial impressions of sweet melon and pineapple transition into the biotransformed strawberry notes mentioned in the aroma. Citra provides a bright citrus backbone. Bitterness is low to moderate and very soft, never harsh. The finish is medium-dry and clean, with a lingering fruit cocktail aftertaste and no cloying sweetness.
Mouthfeel. Medium-full body with a remarkably smooth, soft, and velvety texture. Carbonation is moderate. There is no astringency or harsh hop bite, and the 6% ABV provides a very subtle, well-integrated warmth that remains in the background.
