Brouwen is een vak apart. Logisch dat niet iedereen weet hoe alcohol eigenlijk in bier terecht komt. We gaan het uitleggen… Alcohol ontstaat tijdens het gistingsproces. Daarbij worden de natuurlijke suikers in het brouwsel “opgegeten” door het gist en daarmee omgezet in alcohol.
In tegenstelling tot andere bieren wordt bij de productie van Chouffe 0.4% een speciaal soort gist gebruikt, waardoor alleen bepaalde suikers tijdens het gistingsproces niet omgezet worden in alcohol en het alcoholgehalte onder de 0,4% blijft.
Minder dan 0.5% = Alcoholvrij
In de Nederlandse Warenwet staat vast dat de locatie van de brouwerij leidend is in de benaming alcoholvrij of alcoholarm. De brouwerij van Achouffe staat in België. In de Belgische wetgeving worden alle bieren met minder dan 0.5% alcohol als alcoholvrij beschouwd. Chouffe 0.4%/Alcoholvrij bevat maximaal 0.4% alcohol, daarom mogen we deze Chouffe een alcoholvrij bier noemen.
