This festive Old Ale presents a deep, wintery soul enriched by the vibrant complexity of traditional Mexican ponche. A sturdy malt base delivers decadent notes of molasses and toffee, which intertwine seamlessly with the bright acidity of lime and the tropical sweetness of guava. Deep layers of raisins and earthy, nutty tejocote provide a rich, fruit-cake character, while subtle notes of sugar cane add a lingering, unrefined sweetness. At 9.2% ABV, it offers a sophisticated warmth that balances the dense, vinous textures. It is a celebratory pour, marrying British brewing tradition with the aromatic essence of a Mexican holiday celebration.

Appearance. Deep mahogany with garnet highlights; clear but showing a slight particulate haze from the fruit. Moderate light tan head with fair retention and slight lacing.

Aroma. High intensity. Rich aromas of molasses, toffee, and caramelized sugar are layered with aromatic guava and bright lime zest. Distinct dried fruit notes of raisins and earthy tejocote mingle with a vinous, sherry-like oxidative character. Hop aroma is absent.

Taste. Initial luscious sweetness of toffee and sugar cane. The mid-palate reveals a complex fruit tapestry of guava and stewed raisins, supported by the unique tart-bitter edge of tejocote. Low hop bitterness is secondary to the malt and alcohol presence. The finish is lingering and warming with a pleasant, vinous aftertaste reminiscent of aged Port.

Mouthfeel. Full-bodied and chewy with a velvety, syrupy texture. Carbonation is moderate-low, enhancing the mouth-coating richness. Smooth, significant alcohol warmth is present without being harsh.
