Le Risqu is a decadent American Barleywine crafted in collaboration with Horus Aged Ales, showcasing a masterful balance between assertive hops and extreme barrel influence. Extended aging in W.L. Weller Bourbon barrels imbues the beer with deep caramel and rich toffee notes that meld seamlessly with the underlying resinous and citrusy hop character typical of the style. At 14.1% ABV, the sensory experience is dominated by luxurious bourbon warmth and toasted oak, providing a sophisticated depth. This is a contemplative, full-bodied ale where the aggressive bitterness is elegantly tempered by luscious malt sweetness and a velvety, barrel-refined finish.
Appearance. Deep copper to mahogany (18 SRM) with brilliant clarity and ruby highlights. Pours with a thin, light tan head that shows low retention but leaves prominent legs on the glass due to high alcohol content.
Aroma. High intensity with a complex blend of rich malt and barrel character. Dominant scents of caramel, toffee, and vanilla from the W.L. Weller barrels are complemented by a moderate resinous hop aroma. Significant bourbon and oak presence with low fruity esters and a noticeable, but clean, alcohol warmth.
Taste. Initial impression is a massive wave of malty sweetness featuring toffee and burnt sugar. This is immediately countered by a firm, assertive hop bitterness. Mid-palate reveals bourbon, toasted oak, and vanilla. The hop flavor is moderate and resinous. The finish is lingering and complex, balancing malty richness with a dry, bitter edge and significant alcohol warmth that never becomes solventy.

Ebben a desszertsörnek is nevezett típusban a karamellmalátás édesség mindig domináns, a keserűség lehet magasabb (amerikai típus) illetve visszahúzódó, szinte alig észrevehető (angol típus). Gyakori a mazsolás, szőlős ízérzet. Színvilága a borostyán és mély vöröstől egészen a sötétbarnáig terjedhet. Az idő kimondottan jót tesz ezeknek a stílusoknak valamint rendkívül gyakori a hordóérlelés ezeknél a tételeknél. Legtöbbször vörösboros, rumos, whiskey hordókat választanak a főzdék, mivel jól kiegészítik az egyébként is égetett szeszes jegyekkel bíró alapsört.
