This sessionable Ordinary Bitter showcases a modern British hop profile atop a traditional, easy-drinking foundation. A light, biscuity malt base provides the canvas for Jester, Harlequin, and Mystic hops to shine. Jester contributes bright notes of grapefruit and spice, while Harlequin adds a distinct tropical fruitiness. Mystic rounds out the sensory profile with subtle blackcurrant and floral layers. Despite the hazy pale appearance, the beer maintains a classic British structure with a decidedly bitter balance and a crisp, dry finish. It is a moreish, refreshing ale that expertly balances heritage malt character with a vibrant, contemporary hop punch.
Appearance. Pale amber to light copper (8-12 SRM). Unlike traditional examples, it exhibits a slight haze with a moderate, off-white head that leaves light lacing on the glass.
Aroma. Moderate bready and biscuity malt aroma. The hop intensity is moderate to high for the style, displaying forward notes of blackcurrant, passion fruit, and a hint of peppery spice. Low fruity esters of red apple are present.
Taste. Initial bready malt sweetness is quickly overtaken by a firm, resinous bitterness. Complex hop flavors of grapefruit, dried berries, and tropical fruit persist through the mid-palate. The balance is decidedly bitter, leading into a remarkably dry and clean finish with a lingering earthy and spicy aftertaste.
Mouthfeel. Medium-light body with moderate carbonation. Smooth texture with no astringency and a very low, well-integrated alcohol warmth.
