Rhetoric is a luminous Double IPA that showcases a masterful collaboration of New World hops. A base of Pilsner malt, flaked oats, and wheat creates a velvety, straw-colored foundation for the intensive layering of Motueka, Rakau, and Strata. This blend, amplified by Motueka Hop Kief, bursts with a saturated, juicy intensity. Expect a sensory journey from the initial aroma of sweet lemon pastry to a palate defined by succulent melon and soft peach. Despite its 8% strength, the beer maintains a sophisticated balance, delivering a lush, fruit-forward profile that remains approachable through a smooth, cushioned finish.
Appearance. 3–4 SRM. Super pale, straw-colored with a dense, opaque haze. Features a thick, persistent white foam head with significant lacing.
Aroma. High intensity featuring prominent lime zest, passionfruit, and sweet berry from the Motueka and Strata. Background notes of apricot and peach join a supportive, grainy-sweet malt character reminiscent of lemon-glazed pastry.
Taste. Initial impression is a wave of juicy tropical fruit, leading into specific flavors of rich cantaloupe melon and soft peach. The Pilsner malt and wheat provide a soft, bready backbone. Moderate bitterness is well-integrated and never harsh, finishing with a lingering, sweet citrus character and a clean, dry-leaning aftertaste.
Mouthfeel. Medium-full body with a creamy, soft texture provided by flaked oats and wheat. Moderate carbonation. Alcohol presence is noticeable but smooth and well-integrated without solvent heat or astringency.
