This Double IPA presents a bold, high-impact sensory profile defined by its assertive 90 IBU bitterness and a potent 8.2% alcohol presence. The experience is characterized by a fresh and powerful hop-forward intensity, focusing on resinous pine and citrus zest. A clean, neutral malt backbone ensures the finish remains dry rather than cloying, providing a crisp stage for the hops to shine. Despite its significant strength, the balance between the intense hop punch and smooth alcohol integration makes the beer approachable, delivering a lingering, bitter aftertaste that showcases a classic modern American hop character.
Appearance. Pours a deep gold to light orange-copper color (8-12 SRM). Features a moderate-sized, persistent, off-white head with excellent lacing and very good clarity, showing only a slight chill haze.
Aroma. High to intense hop aroma featuring prominent notes of citrus peel, pine resin, and floral undertones. A supportive, clean, neutral maltiness is barely perceptible in the background. The fermentation profile is clean with a very subtle, smooth alcohol note and no solventy character.
Taste. Initial impression is a massive wave of hop flavor mirroring the aroma with grapefruit, resin, and light tropical fruit. Very high bitterness that is firm but lacks harshness. The malt character is low and unobtrusive, providing just enough body to support the hops. The finish is medium-dry with a long, lingering hoppy and bitter aftertaste.
Mouthfeel. Medium body with a smooth, slightly oily texture. Carbonation is medium-high, providing a lively mouthfeel. A noticeable but smooth and well-integrated alcohol warmth is present, without any hop-derived astringency.
