This collaborative English IPA showcases a harmonious bridge between traditional foundations and modern British hop breeding. The use of Golden Promise malt establishes an elegant, rounded base of toasted bread and sweet biscuit, providing a sturdy platform for the new-generation Ernest hops. Expect a vibrant sensory profile where the hops contribute distinct notes of apricot, citrus, and a gentle peppery spice, departing slightly from classic earthy tones while retaining a refined British sensibility. It concludes with a crisp, well-attenuated dry finish and a polite but firm bitterness that underscores the complex interplay between heritage malt and contemporary hop character.
Appearance. Pours a brilliant, clear golden (SRM 6-8) with a moderate-sized, persistent off-white head that leaves delicate lacing on the glass.
Aroma. A moderately high hop aroma leads with notes of apricot, orange citrus, and a touch of floral spice. This is supported by a medium bready and biscuity malt presence from the Golden Promise base, with low fruity esters and a clean fermentation profile.
Taste. The initial impression is one of crisp malt roundness, featuring bready and lightly toasted biscuit flavors. A firm but smooth hop bitterness emerges quickly, carrying flavors of stone fruit and citrus. The finish is medium-dry to very dry, with a lingering, clean hop bitterness that remains pleasant and free of harshness.
Mouthfeel. Medium-bodied with a smooth texture and moderate to medium-high carbonation. It provides a crisp mouthfeel without any hop-derived astringency, and the 5.5% ABV offers only a very subtle, integrated warmth.
