This American IPA is a masterclass in hop layering, showcasing the versatile Citra hop through the intensive use of Citra BBC, Citra Incognito, and Spectrum Citra. The aroma is an explosion of grapefruit, lime zest, and ripe mango, supported by a neutral Chico yeast profile that allows the hops to dominate without interference. Visually, it presents a brilliant gold hue with a persistent white head. On the palate, a clean, grainy malt backbone provides a brief platform for intense citrus and resinous flavors before a crisp, dry finish sets in. Firm bitterness and a light body ensure a quintessential West Coast drinking experience.
Appearance. Medium gold (6 SRM); brilliant clarity; medium-sized, creamy white head with excellent persistence and intricate lacing.
Aroma. High intensity; dominated by pungent Citra hop characteristics including bright grapefruit, lemon peel, and tropical notes of mango and lychee; faint resinous pine in the background. Malt is low, presenting as clean, crackery grain. Very clean fermentation with no perceptible esters.
Taste. Initial punch of citrus and tropical fruit; strong hop flavor mirroring the aroma. Firm, medium-high bitterness that is crisp but not harsh. Malt flavor is low and neutral, offering a light bready support. Finish is dry and lingering with a clean, hoppy aftertaste.
Mouthfeel. Medium-light body with a smooth, crisp texture. Moderate to high carbonation provides a refreshing bite. Alcohol warmth is very light and well-integrated. No astringency.
