Caleya Génesis is a quintessential West Coast Double IPA that balances potent strength with high drinkability. The sensory profile is dominated by a vibrant hop trifecta; Citra delivers sharp grapefruit and tropical citrus, while Amarillo and Cascade introduce a classic bouquet of floral blossoms and deep resinous pine. Despite its 8.5% ABV, the body remains lean and dry, allowing the aggressive bitterness to shine without becoming harsh. A supportive, clean malt background provides just enough structure to carry the intense hop oils, leading to a crisp, lingering finish defined by citrus rind and evergreen forest notes.
Appearance. Deep gold to light orange-copper (7-12 SRM) with brilliant clarity. It supports a moderate-sized, persistent off-white head with excellent lacing.
Aroma. High intensity hop aroma featuring prominent citrus zest from Citra and Amarillo, underscored by floral and spicy pine notes from Cascade. Malt character is low and neutral, providing a clean, grainy backdrop. Fermentation is clean with very light fruity esters.
Taste. Initial impression is an explosion of hop flavors, mimicking the citrus and resinous pine found in the aroma. Bitterness is firm and high (70-90 IBU context) but remains clean and smooth. Malt flavor is low, primarily neutral and crackery, supporting a very dry finish. The aftertaste is long and hoppy with a pleasant, lingering bitterness.
Mouthfeel. Medium body with a smooth, slightly oily texture. Carbonation is medium-high, and a restrained, well-integrated alcohol warmth is noticeable but lacks any harshness or solvent notes.
