Plead The Fifth is a vibrant Hazy IPA that captures the essence of a modern juice-forward ale. A complex hop bill featuring Idaho 7, Cashmere, Citra, Crystal, and Amarillo drives an intense sensory profile. The aroma is dominated by a concentrated orange nectar character, leading into a palate bursting with tropical fruit and stone fruit notes. The Idaho 7 and Citra contribute bright citrus and mango, while Cashmere provides a subtle melon softness. A neutral, bready malt backbone supports the massive hop load without adding sweetness, resulting in a smooth, fruit-centric experience with a soft, approachable finish.
Appearance. Pours a deep straw to light gold (approx. 5 SRM) with a characteristic opaque haze that lends a luminous glow. It is topped by a dense, rocky, meringue-like white head with very high retention and intricate lacing.
Aroma. High intensity hop aroma featuring vivid orange nectar, mango, and pineapple. The Idaho 7 and Amarillo provide citrus zest, while Cashmere adds notes of ripe melon. Malt character is low and bready, serving as a neutral foundation for the fruit-forward fermentation esters.
Taste. High fruity hop flavor mirroring the tropical and citrus aroma. Low, grainy malt sweetness is quickly overtaken by layers of guava, passion fruit, and citrus oils. Bitterness is low-moderate and smooth, never harsh. The finish is off-dry and clean, with a lingering tropical fruit aftertaste.
Mouthfeel. Medium-full body with a soft, pillowy texture and no astringency. Carbonation is moderate, enhancing the smooth delivery. There is a light, well-integrated alcohol warmth consistent with its 6% ABV.
