Buxton's Infernal is a quintessential Belgian Golden Strong Ale, showcasing a brilliant interplay between the brewery’s house Belgian yeast and a deceptively light structure. The aroma opens with a complex bouquet of pear-like esters and floral, spicy hops, underscored by a soft, peppery alcohol warmth. On the palate, a neutral Pilsner malt base allows the yeast-driven pome fruit and herbal hop notes to shine before giving way to a crisp, bone-dry finish. The hallmark of this expression is its assertive, everlasting bitterness, which provides a clean counterpoint to the 9% ABV, leaving the palate refreshed, effervescent, and remarkably drinkable.
Appearance. Pale gold with brilliant clarity. It supports a massive, long-lasting, rocky white head that leaves characteristic Belgian lacing. Highly effervescent with numerous streams of rising bubbles.
Aroma. High intensity bouquet featuring prominent pear and apple esters. Low to moderate herbal and spicy hop character. A soft, peppery alcohol presence is well-integrated with a nearly neutral, slightly grainy-sweet malt base.
Taste. Leading with pear-like esters and peppery alcohol, the flavor is supported by a light Pilsner malt character. Herbal hop flavors are moderate. The finish is remarkably dry and crisp, punctuated by a firm, lingering bitterness that persists long after the swallow.
Mouthfeel. Medium-light body that feels deceptively thin for its strength. Very high carbonation providing an effervescent, sparkling sensation. Smooth but noticeable alcohol warmth without any harshness or solvent character.
