Pinnacles is a luminous American Pale Ale that masterfully showcases the vibrant terroir of Southern Hemisphere hops. The grist, featuring Extra Pale malt and flaked oats, establishes a soft, pillowy foundation for a multi-layered fruit profile. A whirlpool addition of Rakau imparts deep notes of sun-ripened apricot and succulent stone fruits. The experience is further elevated by a generous dry hop of Kohatu and Eclipse, which bursts with zesty orange, sweet mandarin, and a lush melody of tropical fruits. This bright, modern pale ale balances its expressive hop character with a clean, approachable finish, embodying a sophisticated blend of New Zealand and Australian intensity.
Appearance. Pale golden (6 SRM). Features a moderately large, frothy white head with good retention and delicate lacing. While generally clear, the use of oats provides a soft, luminous sheen.
Aroma. Moderately high intensity hop aroma dominated by stone fruit and citrus. Distinct notes of apricot and peach are layered over sweet mandarin orange and tropical pineapple. Low grainy-sweet maltiness provides a neutral backdrop with a faint hint of caramel.
Taste. Initial impression is a burst of tropical fruit and bright citrus. Flavors of apricot and mandarin orange are prominent, supported by a soft, bready malt character from the Extra Pale and flaked oat base. Moderate hop bitterness provides balance without becoming harsh. The finish is clean and medium-dry with a lingering note of orange zest.
Mouthfeel. Medium-light to medium body with a notably soft, smooth texture derived from the flaked oats. Carbonation is moderate. Alcohol warmth is very low, ensuring high drinkability without any astringency.
