Burnley Brewing Pale Ale
This Australian Sparkling Ale presents as a vibrant, hop-forward crusher featuring a modern twist on the classic style. The interplay of Galaxy and Cascade hops delivers an assertive tropical punch on the nose, transitioning into bright citrus notes across the palate. A base of Pale Ale and Wheat malts provides a smooth, bready foundation with a clean, neutral character that supports the hops without competing. Highly carbonated and refreshing, it finishes remarkably dry. The yeast-driven pome fruit esters typical of the style are present but play a supporting role to the fresh, contemporary hop profile.
Appearance. Medium gold color (approx. 5-6 SRM). Features a tall, frothy, and persistent white head with fine bubbles and visible effervescence. Clarity is brilliant if decanted, though it may appear hazy or cloudy if the yeast is roused during pouring.
Aroma. Moderate to high intensity. Tropical fruit and citrus zest from the hops are prominent, complemented by moderate esters of pear and apple. The malt aroma is clean, bready, and lightly grainy with no caramel, finished with a subtle mineral or sulfury yeast note.
Taste. Initial bready malt sweetness is quickly overtaken by a medium-high hop bitterness and flavors of citrus and tropical fruit. Hop character is fresh and resinous rather than earthy. The fermentation profile includes light notes of apple and pear. It is highly attenuated, leading to a crisp, very dry finish with a lingering, clean bitterness.
Mouthfeel. Medium body with a smooth, mouth-filling texture enhanced by the wheat. Very high carbonation provides a spritzy carbonic bite. No significant alcohol warmth is present, and the beer is free from astringency.
