Burnley Brewing’s Munich Dunkel presents a deeply inviting expression of Bavarian tradition, centered on a robust Munich malt foundation. The sensory experience is defined by layered aromas of toasted biscuit and dark bread crust, punctuated by delicate hints of chocolate derived from the addition of Carafa malt. On the palate, it delivers a smooth, malty richness that balances soft sweetness with a clean, medium-dry finish. Noble Hallertau Tradition hops provide a faint, herbal counterpoint to the bready core, while the inclusion of Wheat enhances the creamy mouthfeel. It is a sophisticated, full-flavored dark lager that remains elegantly balanced and highly approachable.
Appearance. Deep copper to dark brown (22 SRM) with a garnet tint. Crowned by a creamy, medium-tan head with good retention and lacing. Usually clear.
Aroma. Moderate to high intensity of toasted bread crust and biscuit-like Munich malt. Subtle notes of chocolate and nuts from the Carafa malt. Clean fermentation profile with a very low herbal, spicy hop aroma from the Hallertau Tradition hops.
Taste. Rich, bready, and toasted malt flavors dominate the initial impression. Hints of milk chocolate and caramel emerge mid-palate without being sugary. Medium-low bitterness provides a malty balance. Finish is medium-dry and clean, leaving a lingering toasted malt aftertaste devoid of harsh roast or burnt grain notes.
Mouthfeel. Medium-full body with a soft, dextrinous character enhanced by Wheat malt. Moderate carbonation. Smooth, clean lager character with no alcohol warmth or astringency.
