Sapling is a vibrant Hoppy Rye Amber Ale that masterfully balances rustic grain character with expressive Pacific Northwest hops. The inclusion of rye provides a signature peppery spice and a hearty, bready foundation that anchors the sensory experience. Bright, punchy aromas of blueberry and tropical fruit from Mosaic hops lead the charge, complemented by the classic citrus and pine-needle notes of Cascade. Its deep amber appearance precedes a palate where toasted malt sweetness meets a firm bitterness. The finish is notably crisp and dry, driven by the rye’s spicy grip, resulting in a complex and refreshing interpretation of an American amber style.
Appearance.Deep amber to copper-red (13–17 SRM) with excellent clarity. It features a thick, persistent off-white head with dense lacing.
Aroma.Moderate-high intensity. Prominent hop-derived notes of blueberry, mango, and grapefruit pith. Supporting these are spicy, grainy rye notes and a backbone of toasted bread and light caramel maltiness. Low fermentation esters.
Taste.Initial toasted malt and caramel sweetness are quickly overtaken by a bold hop profile of tangerine, resin, and dark berries. The rye grain contributes a distinct peppery bite and earthy complexity. Bitterness is firm but supportive of the malt. The finish is dry and clean with lingering notes of pine and spicy grain.
Mouthfeel.Medium body with a slight slickness or viscosity attributed to the rye. Moderate carbonation provides a crisp lift. Very light, well-integrated alcohol warmth.
