Orbital, a collaboration with Rockmill, is a vibrant Wild Specialty Beer that leans into the decadent pastry sour profile. Brewed at 18°Blg, it presents a lush, tropical experience driven by massive additions of mango and curuba. The sensory profile is dominated by the exotic, tangy notes of banana passionfruit from the curuba and the nectar-like sweetness of ripe mango. These fruits harmonize with a mild wild acidity, creating a complex, smoothie-like character. Despite its tartness, a distinct pastry-like sweetness lingers, rounding out the exotic fruit flavors into a rich, dessert-esque finish that showcases the intensity of modern Polish craft fruit beers.
Appearance. Deep golden to orange-yellow, significantly hazy to opaque with a thick, nectar-like consistency. The head is moderate in size, off-white to pale orange, with fair retention for a sour style.
Aroma. High intensity. Explosive tropical notes of ripe mango and tangy curuba, reminiscent of passionfruit and lime. A subtle lactic tartness blends with a sweet, doughy, vanilla-like pastry aroma. Very low wild funk; the focus remains on the vibrant fruit and sugary malt base.
Taste. Initial impression is a burst of sweet mango nectar followed quickly by the sharp, exotic tartness of curuba. The mid-palate features a moderate lactic acidity that balances the significant residual sweetness of the base. Malt flavors are bready and sweet. The finish is long and fruity, with a lingering creamy sweetness and a clean, refreshing acidic snap. Bitterness is negligible.
Mouthfeel. Medium-full to full body with a thick, creamy, and coating texture. Carbonation is moderate. Alcohol warmth is well-hidden at 6% ABV, providing a gentle weight without being solventy. Low astringency.
