This vibrant American Pale Ale, known as Pirania, presents an intensified hop experience that pushes the boundaries of the traditional style. Drawing inspiration from its Shark lineage, it delivers an assertive punch of citrus, resin, and tropical fruit notes characteristic of American hop varieties. The aroma is dominated by a pungent, fresh hop bouquet that signals an aggressive yet refined bitterness to follow. Despite its moderate gravity, the beer maintains a crisp, sunny profile with a lean malt backbone, allowing the bold hops to remain the undisputed protagonist from the first bright sip to the sharp, lingering finish.
Appearance. Pale golden to light amber with an SRM of approximately 6-8. It features a moderately large, creamy white head that exhibits excellent retention and fine lacing. Clarity is brilliant.
Aroma. High intensity hop aroma featuring a complex blend of grapefruit zest, pine needles, and underripe mango. A low, clean, grainy-sweet malt scent provides a subtle foundation. Fermentation is clean with very low floral esters and no diacetyl.
Taste. The initial impression is a burst of citrus pith and resinous hops. Malt flavor is restrained and neutral, reminiscent of fresh white bread. Bitterness is firm and assertive, sitting at the high end of the style range and lingering into a clean, dry finish. While the bitterness is prominent, it avoids harshness, maintaining a balance that heavily favors late hop additions and aroma.
Mouthfeel. Medium-light body with moderate to high carbonation that provides a crisp, refreshing prickle on the tongue. The finish is smooth and clean, devoid of astringency or any significant alcohol warmth.
