This decadent Imperial Stout pours as dark as night, immediately releasing a luxurious aroma of toasted coconut, rich cocoa, and sweet vanilla. It captures the brewer's intent of a liquid dessert, wrapping the palate in a velvety layer of Belgian pralines and buttery toffee. The intense dark malt backbone provides a solid foundation of bittersweet chocolate, while the smooth warmth of ten percent alcohol emerges gently in the background. It is a highly complex, dessert-forward beer where the coconut and vanilla gracefully intertwine with deep roasted grains, delivering a harmonious, indulgent, and lingering finish.
Appearance. Jet black and completely opaque. It pours with a thick, dense, deep tan head that shows excellent retention, leaving rich lacing on the glass. Visible legs and high viscosity are apparent when swirled.
Aroma. High intensity and deeply complex. Dominant aromas of sweet vanilla bean and rich, toasted coconut blend seamlessly with underlying notes of dark chocolate, cocoa powder, Belgian pralines, and caramelized toffee. Low dark fruit esters of prunes and raisins are present, alongside a smooth, warming alcohol character. Hop aroma is virtually absent.
Taste. An indulgent initial impression of sweet chocolate, vanilla, and toasted coconut. The mid-palate reveals layers of dark cocoa, buttery toffee, and decadent Belgian pralines supported by a robust roasted malt bitterness. Hop bitterness is moderate to firm but highly balanced by the substantial residual sweetness. The finish is long and comforting, showcasing a harmonious blend of dark roasted grains, sweet adjuncts, and smooth alcohol warmth without being cloying.
Mouthfeel. Very full-bodied, thick, and chewy with a luscious, velvety, and mouth-coating texture. Carbonation is low to moderate, enhancing the creamy feel. A distinct, gentle alcohol warmth is present but beautifully integrated and smooth.
