Hrabia Barry Kent is a sophisticated, sessionable Rye Grodziskie that masterfully integrates traditional oak-smoked wheat with a specialty infusion of Suska Sechlońska. This historic Polish style is reimagined through the inclusion of spicy Rye and the deep, leathery, campfire-sweetness of traditional smoked plums. At a delicate 2.7% ABV, the beer presents a complex interplay between light, grainy malts and a dual smoke profile: the clean, elegant oak-smoke of the base and the darker, fruit-driven intensity of the plums. It is exceptionally effervescent, delivering a prickly carbonation that cleanses the palate, leaving a dry, lingering finish of woodsmoke and dark fruit skin.
Appearance. Pours a light golden to pale amber (SRM 4-6) with a slight haze from the rye and plum infusion. It features a voluminous, snow-white, pillowy head with exceptional retention and intricate lacing.
Aroma. Moderate to high intensity smoke dominates, blending clean oak-smoke with the characteristic leathery, prune-like, and wood-smoke aromatics of Suska Sechlońska. Low grainy wheat and a distinctively spicy rye malt character are present, accompanied by subtle herbal hop notes and a faint, clean lactic tartness.
Taste. The initial impression is crisp and highly effervescent. The flavor profile is a balance of grainy wheat and spicy rye malt against a prominent but smooth smoke character. The Suska Sechlońska contributes a unique depth, offering notes of dried plum and dark woodsmoke without excessive sweetness. Hop bitterness is low, providing just enough structure. The finish is bone-dry and clean, with a lingering, pleasant smokiness.
Mouthfeel. Very light body with a crisp, prickly texture due to very high carbonation. Despite the low gravity, the rye provides a subtle, silky mouth-coating quality. There is no alcohol warmth and zero astringency.
