This New Zealand West Coast IPA presents a vibrant fusion of Southern Hemisphere character and classic California-style structure. The high-intensity hop profile is defined by Nelson Sauvin, contributing signature notes of white wine grapes and gooseberry, while Motueka adds a bright, zesty lime quality. Wai-iti rounds out the experience with stone fruit nuances of peach and apricot. The palate is decidedly dry and lean, featuring a crisp, grainy malt backbone that allows the firm bitterness to linger. This collaboration offers a sophisticated, tropical interpretation of the American IPA style, finishing with a clean, resinous snap and subtle warmth from its 7.5% ABV.
Appearance.Medium gold to light amber (6-9 SRM). Pours with brilliant clarity and a persistent, fine-textured white head that leaves significant lacing on the glass.
Aroma.High intensity hop aroma featuring white wine, crushed grapes, and gooseberry from Nelson Sauvin, complemented by distinct lime zest and passionfruit from Motueka. Subtle peach and apricot notes from Wai-iti emerge as it warms. Malt is low, clean, and crackery. Fermentation is very clean.
Taste.Immediate, firm bitterness followed by prominent flavors of gooseberry, sauvignon blanc, and lime zest. Low grainy malt sweetness quickly fades into a bone-dry finish. Bitterness is assertive (high IBU context) but clean. Aftertaste is long and hoppy with resinous and tropical fruit notes. Very high hop complexity.
Mouthfeel.Medium-light body with a crisp, smooth texture. Carbonation is medium-high. A light, well-integrated alcohol warmth is present, consistent with the 7.5% ABV. Low astringency.
