This traditional Weissbier, crafted according to a classic German recipe, offers a vibrant sensory experience rooted in its use of barley malt and wheat malt. The pour presents a characteristic haze with a fluffy, long-lasting head. Aromatically, it leads with a signature balance of ripe banana esters and spicy clove phenols, supported by a gentle, doughy wheat backbone. On the palate, the interplay of bready grains and yeast-driven fruitiness provides a full yet refreshing profile. Despite its slightly elevated 6% ABV, it remains a crisp thirst-quencher with an effervescent finish and minimal bitterness, staying true to its Oudenhoorn origins.
Appearance. Straw to gold in color (approx. 4 SRM). Features a very thick, moussy, and long-lasting white head with excellent lacing. The body is noticeably hazy, with a luminous shine from the suspended wheat proteins and yeast.
Aroma. Moderate to strong intensity featuring a classic balance of banana esters and clove-like phenols. The malt character is prominently bready and doughy, reflecting the high wheat content. Hop aroma is very low to absent, with just a faint hint of herbal spiciness.
Taste. Initial flavors of soft, bready wheat and grainy-sweetness are followed by a well-rounded yeast profile of banana and clove. Bitterness is very low, allowing for a flavorful and malt-forward palate. The finish is relatively dry and refreshing, without any heavy or syrupy lingering sweetness.
Mouthfeel. Medium body with a characteristic fluffy and creamy fullness. Carbonation is high and effervescent, providing a spritzy finish. At 6% ABV, there is a very light, well-integrated alcohol warmth that does not detract from its drinkability.
