This collaborative Baltic Porter from Brouwerij IJssel and PopHop presents a sophisticated 8% ABV profile that balances strength with remarkable smoothness. The sensory experience is anchored by a deep malt foundation of dark chocolate, molasses, and toasted nuts. Subtle esters of plum and raisin emerge as the beer warms, reminiscent of a fine vinous port. Aroma. High intensity malt-forward bouquet of dark chocolate, licorice, and deep toast; rich dark fruit esters of prunes and cherries; no hop aroma; clean fermentation with a subtle, warming alcohol presence.
Taste. Rich malt initial impression featuring toffee and molasses; mid-palate introduces smooth, Schwarzbier-like roasted notes of coffee and cocoa without any burnt harshness; medium-low bitterness provides balance; finish is dryish with lingering dark fruit and a hint of licorice; no hop flavor.
