Brouwerij Halve Tamme

Naphtha is a powerful and unapologetic expression of darkness, pouring pitch black with a dense, mocha head. The sensory experience is defined by an intense backbone of roasted grains, delivering assertive cues of freshly ground coffee and bittersweet dark chocolate. Despite the high alcohol content, the warmth is integrated into a complex tapestry of dark fruit and deep caramel maltiness. Eschewing the modern trend of syrupy pastry stouts, it maintains a bold, roasted focus that honors the tradition of the Imperial Stout style, offering a harmonious balance between firm bitterness and a velvety, full-bodied mouthfeel.

Appearance. Jet black and completely opaque (40 SRM). Features a thick, persistent deep tan head with excellent retention and visible legs upon swirling due to high viscosity.

Aroma. High intensity with a rich blend of roasted malts, exhibiting notes of espresso, bittersweet cocoa, and slightly burnt grain. Moderate esters present as dried plums and raisins, complemented by a low earthy hop character and a clean, warming alcohol presence.

Taste. Initial impression is a massive wave of dark chocolate and roasted coffee. A firm bitterness balances the deep malt backbone of toasted bread and dark caramel. Mid-palate suggests dried black currants and figs. The finish is long and complex, ending moderately dry with a lingering roasted bitterness and smooth warmth.

Mouthfeel. Full-bodied and exceptionally chewy with a velvety, luscious texture. Carbonation is moderate-low, supporting a smooth, noticeable alcohol warmth without any harshness or astringency.

Op een willekeurige avond, ergens in 2015, werd de vraag op tafel gelegd; 'Zou het niet leuk zijn om samen zelf eens een bier te brouwen?'
Sindsdien is een en ander behoorlijk uit de hand gelopen.
