Brouwerij Frontaal

This American Stout presents a robust sensory profile driven by dark-roasted malts and the decadent addition of cacao and maple. Deep aromas of bittersweet chocolate and espresso emerge, layered with a subtle, woody sweetness from the maple syrup. On the palate, the roast intensity is balanced by the richness of the cacao, providing a velvety texture. While the American Stout base offers a firm bitterness and resinous undertones, the maple provides a smooth, rounded character that softens the charred grain. It is a bold, complex beer with a lingering dark chocolate aftertaste and a gentle, integrated alcohol warmth that complements its dark malt core.

Appearance. Jet black and opaque (SRM 40+). It features a large, persistent, tan-colored head with excellent retention and thick lacing.

Aroma. High intensity roast aroma, dominated by dark chocolate, cacao, and freshly roasted coffee. The maple syrup contributes a light, woody, and caramel-like sweetness. Low resinous hop aroma is present in the background. Clean fermentation with very low dark fruit esters.

Taste. Bold initial impression of bittersweet chocolate and burnt toast. Strong roasted malt flavors suggest espresso and dark cocoa nibs. Medium-high bitterness is balanced by the maple syrup's sweetness. Low resinous hop flavor. The finish is medium-dry with a lingering roasted coffee and dark chocolate quality, lacking any acrid or sharp edges.

Mouthfeel. Medium-full body with a creamy, coating texture. Carbonation is moderate to medium-high. A noticeable but smooth alcohol warmth is present, providing a well-integrated heat without being fusel.
