This Imperial Stout offers a commanding sensory experience, defined by its maturation in Single Malt Islay whisky barrels. The pour is intensely dark, topped with a resilient light brown head. The nose is dominated by unmistakable Islay characteristics—peat smoke, medicinal iodine, and sea salt—intertwined with deep roasted malt notes of espresso and dark chocolate. On the palate, a complex array of specialty malts provides a sturdy foundation for flavors of charred oak, smoky peat, and black liquorice. The high alcohol content delivers a refined warmth, leading to a long, lingering finish where roasted bitterness and peaty earthiness harmonize beautifully.

Appearance. Jet black and opaque (SRM 40+). Features a stable, creamy light brown head with moderate retention and significant lacing. High viscosity is apparent in the glass through visible legs.

Aroma. High intensity. Dominant Islay whisky notes of peat smoke and earthy bog are complemented by sharp roasted malt scents of burnt grain and dark cocoa. Subtle background esters of dried prunes and raisins mix with a noticeable but well-integrated ethanol presence.

Taste. Initial impression is a rich, malt-forward character quickly overtaken by intense roasted grain and dark chocolate. The Islay barrel influence introduces smoky peat and a hint of salinity. Moderate-high bitterness from both hops and roasted grains balances the specialty malt depth. The finish is long and complex, featuring lingering notes of black liquorice and charred oak.

Mouthfeel. Full-bodied and chewy with a velvety, luscious texture. Carbonation is low to moderate. A significant, smooth alcohol warmth is present, consistent with its 12% strength, without being harsh or solventy.
