This Russian Imperial Stout is a decadent sensory experience, defined by its collaboration with Locals coffee roasters. The addition of cold-brewed medium roast Indian coffee beans introduces an intricate profile of toasted hazelnuts, dark chocolate, and a subtle, exotic wood-spice. The base beer provides a massive foundation of roasted grains and dark fruit esters, which harmonize with the coffee's sweetness. At 11% ABV, the alcohol is well-integrated, providing a velvety warmth that carries the rich, mocha-like flavors through a long, bittersweet finish. It is a bold, complex stout where the spicy and nutty nuances of the Indian coffee remain the focal point.
Appearance. Opaque, deep ebony to jet black (40+ SRM) with a thick, long-lasting mocha-colored head. Excellent lacing and a slightly oily surface sheen from the coffee bean oils.
Aroma. High intensity aroma of freshly roasted coffee, milk chocolate, and toasted nuts. The base style contributes underlying notes of dark caramel, burnt sugar, and faint black cherry esters. Hop aroma is very low, allowing the medium roast coffee and roasted malts to dominate.
Taste. Rich and complex, featuring initial flavors of bittersweet chocolate and intense cold-brew coffee. The Indian coffee beans provide specific notes of hazelnut and a faint, sweet spiciness. Mid-palate reveals charred crust and espresso malt character. Moderate-high bitterness from roasted grains and hops is balanced by significant residual sweetness. The finish is lingering and smooth with a distinct roasted bean aftertaste.
Mouthfeel. Full-bodied and viscous with a velvety, creamy texture. Carbonation is moderate-low. A prominent, smooth alcohol warmth is present without being hot or fusel. Low astringency despite the heavy roast profile.
