This Belgian Pale Ale, traditionally known as a Spéciale Belge, pours a vibrant amber with a sensory profile defined by refined balance and a fresh character. The aroma is marked by a distinctive spicy nose, where herbal continental hops meet subtle peppery yeast phenols. A sturdy foundation of bready and toasty malts provides notes of biscuit and light caramel, supporting moderate fruitiness reminiscent of ripe pear and red apple. Though slightly stronger at 6.5% ABV, the palate remains smooth with a soft malt sweetness that transitions into a clean, gentle bitterness, resulting in a fine, dry, and lingering finish.
Appearance. Deep amber to copper (12–14 SRM) with brilliant clarity. Topped by a thick, rocky, off-white head with excellent retention and delicate lacing.
Aroma. Moderate intensity featuring bready and toasted malt notes with light honey and caramel undertones. Low to moderate spicy and herbal hop character. Moderate fruitiness of pear and orange is complemented by a low peppery phenolic spice.
Taste. Initial soft, smooth malt impression of toasted biscuit and nutty notes. Moderate fruitiness of apple and orange peel blends into a medium-low spicy hop flavor. Bitterness is medium and well-integrated, leading to a balanced-to-dry finish with a clean, slightly herbal aftertaste.
Mouthfeel. Medium body with a smooth, slightly creamy texture. Moderate to medium-high carbonation. Alcohol warmth is very low but provides a light, pleasant glow consistent with its 6.5% ABV.
