The HORAL's Oude Geuze Mega Blend (2011) represents a masterwork of spontaneous fermentation, weaving together the distinct characters of eight legendary lambic producers. The sensory journey begins with an assertive, complex bouquet of barnyard funk, horse blanket, and aged leather, layered over bright notes of rhubarb, lemon zest, and green apple. A faint, honeyed wheat malt profile provides a delicate foundation for the sharp, yet refined lactic acidity. On the palate, this Gueuze is bone-dry and effervescent, showcasing a sophisticated balance between earthy funk and vibrant citrus. The finish is crisp and puckering, leaving a lingering, clean tartness and subtle oak character.
Appearance. Deep golden color (6 SRM) with brilliant clarity and a massive, rocky, mousse-like white head that exhibits exceptional persistence.
Aroma. High intensity with complex funk consisting of horse blanket, hay, and leather. Moderate fruitiness reminiscent of citrus rind and cider apples. Low bready wheat malt and a subtle hint of honey; no hop aroma is present.
Taste. Sharply sour but balanced by deep wild complexity. Initial impressions of lactic tartness give way to earthy funk, goaty notes, and lemon-like acidity. Low grainy malt flavor. Bitterness is nearly imperceptible, as the acidity provides the primary balance. Finish is bone-dry, crisp, and refreshing with a lingering tart aftertaste.
Mouthfeel. Medium-light body with a soft, velvety texture despite the high acidity. Very high, effervescent carbonation. A light, pleasant alcoholic warmth is present at 7% ABV. Low puckering astringency.

A total of 16,000 numbered bottles of the Megablend 2009 were produced. The bottle with the label number 00001 was auctioned via eBay. Takayuki Yamamoto, a geuze lover from Japan, made the highest bid: 255 euros.
From the Megablend Oude Geuze 2011, 17,000 bottles were produced. It was the same geuze enthusiast from Tokyo who won the HORAL Megablend 2011 number 00001 for 315 EUR. The Megablend 2009 and 2011 are blends of young and old lambic from eight HORAL members (3 Fonteinen, Boon, De Cam, De Troch, Hanssens, Lindemans, Oud Beersel and Timmermans).
The HORAL Megablend 2013 with serial number 00001 was also auctioned via eBay. Erwin Cuyx from Brussels paid EUR 381 for it. An absolute record. For the Megablend 2015 a geuze enthusiast from Great Britain paid 300 EUR for the first bottle.

The HORAL Oude Geuze Megablend 2019 is a blend of lambics originating from 8 producers (Boon, De Oude Cam, De Troch, Hanssens, Lindemans, Oud Beersel, Tilquin and Timmermans).
The Megablend 2021 is a blend of young and old lambic from all HORAL members (Boon, De Oude Cam, De Troch, Hanssens, Tilquin, Lambiek Fabriek, Lindemans, Mort Subite, Oud Beersel and Timmermans). The launch of this Limited Edition will be on April 30. From May 3, 2021, the bottles will also be available at specialist beverage retailers.
