Coastal Nova presents as a classic yet modern West Coast IPA, radiating with a complex bouquet from its double dry-hopped treatment. The aromatic profile is headlined by the pungent, dank passionfruit of Strata and the tropical pineapple notes of Idaho 7. Simcoe provides a resinous pine backbone that grounds the brighter layers of berry and citrus from Mosaic. Utilizing Citra Cryo amplifies the lime and grapefruit intensity without adding vegetal bulk. The palate follows with a clean, supportive malt presence that lets the assertive bitterness shine, finishing crisp and dry in true West Coast fashion.
Appearance. Deep gold (7 SRM). Brilliant clarity with a tall, dense white head that exhibits excellent persistence and leaves intricate lacing.
Aroma. High intensity hop aroma. Vivid notes of resinous pine and grapefruit zest dominate initially, followed by layers of ripe passionfruit, crushed pineapple, and subtle blueberries. Very low, clean bready malt sweetness; fermentation is neutral with no significant esters.
Taste. Assertive hop-forward flavors of dank pine and citrus peel transition into a tropical fruit medley. Low, grainy maltiness provides a light base with minimal caramel. Medium-high hop bitterness is firm and clean. The finish is very dry and crisp with a lingering resinous and fruity aftertaste.
Mouthfeel. Medium body with a smooth, slightly oily hop texture. Moderate-high carbonation provides a crisp bite. Very light, clean alcohol warmth is well-integrated; no astringency.
