This vibrant Fruit Beer fuses the soft, pillowy textures of a Hazy IPA with a bold infusion of pure watermelon juice. The sensory experience is led by the distinctive Motueka hops, which contribute bright zesty lime and tropical fruit notes that dovetail seamlessly with the refreshing, candy-like essence of fresh watermelon. A supportive malt backbone provides a gentle sweetness, balancing the hop-forward profile. The finish is crisp yet fruity, showcasing a harmonious marriage between the punchy New Zealand hops and the cooling melon character, making for an exceptionally approachable and fragrant summer-inspired ale.
Appearance. Pours a hazy, pale straw to deep gold (4-6 SRM) with a frothy, persistent white head that leaves consistent lacing. The clarity is noticeably opaque as expected for the base style.
Aroma. High intensity featuring a dominant fresh watermelon character. This is layered with zesty lime, mojito-like citrus, and tropical fruit notes driven by the Motueka hops. Low bready malt sweetness and clean fermentation esters are present in the background.
Taste. An initial burst of sweet watermelon juice transitions into citrusy lime and crushed fruit flavors. The Motueka hops provide moderate bitterness that balances the fruit sweetness without becoming harsh. The malt profile is soft and crackery, leading to a clean, lingering fruity finish with no artificial aftertaste.
Mouthfeel. Medium-light body with a soft, slightly creamy texture. Carbonation is moderate to high, providing a refreshing prickle. Alcohol warmth is very low and well-integrated at 4.8% ABV.
