Heavy Machinery is a formidable American IPA that commands attention with its robust golden grain foundation and a massive payload of premium American hops. The aromatic profile is dominated by the citrus-forward intensity of Citra and the resinous, piney depths of Simcoe, while Columbus adds a layer of pungent, herbal complexity. At 9% ABV, it presents a full-bodied experience with a smooth, lingering warmth that balances the aggressive bitterness. Expect a vibrant tropical fruit explosion on the palate, evolving into a dry, resinous finish that honors the tradition of big, bold West Coast-inspired brewing and high-intensity hop saturation.
Appearance. Deep gold to light reddish-amber (approx. 9-13 SRM). Features a medium-sized, off-white head with excellent persistence and substantial lacing. Brilliant clarity with only a slight haze from heavy dry-hopping.
Aroma. High intensity hop aroma with prominent notes of passionfruit, mango, and grapefruit from the Citra, alongside resinous pine and wood-sap from Simcoe. A background note of pungent, earthy spice is contributed by Columbus. Low to medium-low grainy-sweet maltiness provides a clean, honeyed support. Fermentation is clean.
Taste. Immediate, intense hop flavor echoing the tropical fruit and resinous pine found in the aroma. Bitterness is very high but clean, supported by a medium-low grainy malt character with hints of light toast. The balance is heavily hop-forward, leading to a medium-dry finish with a long, lingering resinous and bitter aftertaste. Background alcohol notes are present but smooth.
Mouthfeel. Full body with a smooth, almost creamy texture. Carbonation is medium to medium-high. A noticeable and pleasant alcohol warmth is present without being harsh or fusel.
