Brix City's Porter Authority is a robust American Porter that emphasizes a decadent, roast-forward profile. The 7% ABV lends a refined, integrated warmth to a notably creamy mouthfeel. Highlighting the brewer's intent, the sensory experience is defined by intense aromas and flavors of roasted coffee beans and dark chocolate, further enhanced by the addition of cacao nibs. These rich layers are supported by a foundation of chocolate malt, providing a deep, toasted complexity. A firm bitterness balances the initial malty sweetness, resulting in a clean, lingering finish that remains smooth without harsh acidity or an acrid aftertaste.
Appearance. Very dark brown to nearly black (35-40 SRM) with deep ruby highlights when held to the light. The beer is topped by a thick, persistent tan head that leaves significant lacing on the glass.
Aroma. High intensity roasted malt aroma featuring prominent notes of fresh coffee beans and bittersweet chocolate. A light caramel sweetness is present in the background, along with a low earthy hop character and very subtle dark fruit esters.
Taste. Initial impression is rich and malty, dominated by dark chocolate and cacao nibs. This transitions into a moderately strong roasted coffee flavor with medium-high bitterness (approx. 45 IBU) that provides a firm balance. The finish is medium-dry with a lingering roasted grain complexity and no acidic bite.
Mouthfeel. Medium-full body with a distinct creaminess and moderate carbonation. A noticeable but well-integrated alcohol warmth is present. Very low astringency from the dark malts, contributing to a smooth, velvety texture.
