This Double IPA showcases a vibrant tropical tapestry driven by an experimental yeast strain and a massive double dry-hopping of Citra, Strata, and Huell Melon. Despite containing no actual fruit, it delivers intense sensory layers of pink guava, juicy passion fruit, and Dole pineapple juice. The Citra hops provide zesty tangerine notes, while Huell Melon contributes ripe cantaloupe aromas. Strata adds depth with hints of red berry and tropical punch, reminiscent of pink Starbursts. A clean, supportive malt profile allows these exotic hop and yeast-derived esters to dominate, finishing with a soft bitterness and smooth, integrated warmth.
Appearance. Pours a deep gold to light orange with a persistent, dense white head. Most modern versions exhibit a distinct hazy opacity with fine, lingering lacing.
Aroma. High-intensity hop aroma featuring dominant tropical notes of guava, passion fruit, and pineapple. A secondary citrus character of tangerine and ripe melon is present, supported by a clean, neutral, grainy malt background and expressive, fruity fermentation esters.
Taste. Initial impression is a massive tropical fruit explosion of pineapple and guava, followed by zesty tangerine and ripe cantaloupe flavors. The hop bitterness is firm but smooth, lacking harshness. A low, clean, soft malt character supports the hop-forward profile, which transitions into a semi-dry finish with a lingering fruity, candy-like aftertaste.
Mouthfeel. Medium body with a smooth, creamy texture. Moderate carbonation provides a gentle lift. A restrained and well-integrated alcohol warmth is present, without any harsh hop-derived astringency.
