Bright Brewery’s Black Diamond is a refined Specialty IPA that balances the punch of an American IPA with the sleek, dark profile of specialty malts. The experience begins with an aromatic interplay of resinous pine and bright citrus, grounded by deep earthy and herbal hop notes. On the palate, smooth layers of dark malt provide a subtle, toasted backdrop that avoids burnt or ashy harshness. The firm bitterness typical of the style is well-integrated, leading to a clean, crisp finish where light roast and citrus zest linger harmoniously. It is a medium-bodied, evocative beer that captures a crisp alpine spirit with every sip.
Appearance. Deep ebony to black (35-40 SRM) with a persistent, creamy light tan head that leaves moderate lacing. The beer shows brilliant clarity at the edges, though it remains largely opaque in the glass.
Aroma. Moderate to high intensity hop profile featuring distinct pine resin, citrus peel, and a nuanced herbal earthiness. Low malt presence offers hints of cocoa and light toast without any acridity or burnt character. Clean fermentation with negligible esters.
Taste. Initial citrus and pine hop flavors dominate, supported by a medium-low malt backbone suggestive of dark bread crust and subtle chocolate. The medium-high bitterness is firm but smooth, never clashing with the malt. It finishes dry and clean with a refreshing roast character and lingering herbal hop notes.
Mouthfeel. Smooth and approachable with a medium-light to medium body. Moderate carbonation provides a crisp texture on the tongue. Very light alcohol warmth is well-integrated into the finish.
