This Double IPA presents a bold, modern interpretation of the West Coast style, balancing intense hop character with supreme drinkability. The sensory journey begins with a citrus-heavy aroma featuring unique notes of chinotto and candied orange. On the palate, an off-dry profile reveals vibrant layers of tangerine and pineapple juice, supported by a clean, neutral malt backbone. The experience concludes with a classic finish of grapefruit pith and a firm, lingering bitterness. A well-integrated alcohol warmth from the 8.1% ABV adds depth without harshness, creating a complex yet refreshing profile that exemplifies the California-inspired Cali approach to the style.
Appearance. Deep gold to light orange-copper (SRM 7-10). Excellent clarity with a moderate, persistent white head that leaves fine lacing.
Aroma. High intensity hop aroma dominated by citrus characteristics, specifically candied orange and chinotto. Background notes of pineapple and tropical fruit. Malt is very low and neutral; yeast esters are clean with no notable phenols.
Taste. Strong hop-forward flavors of tangerine and pineapple juice over a dry to off-dry palate. Bitterness is high and firm, reminiscent of grapefruit pith, but remains smooth. Malt provides a soft, unobtrusive support. Finishes very dry and clean with a long, hoppy aftertaste.
Mouthfeel. Medium body with a smooth, velvety texture. Carbonation is moderate to high. A refined and well-integrated alcohol warmth is present but never hot or solventy. No hop-derived astringency.
