This collaboration with Mikkeller is a striking Black IPA that showcases the vibrant, resinous character of locally harvested fresh Australian hops. Pouring a deep mahogany-black, it offers an expressive bouquet of pine needles, damp earth, and bright citrus from the wet hops, beautifully contrasted by subtle undertones of toasted cacao and cold-brew coffee. On the palate, a smooth, medium-bodied malt structure delivers supportive notes of dark chocolate without harsh, burnt astringency. The finish is remarkably clean and dry, punctuated by a firm, lingering hop bitterness and a gentle, warming presence.

Appearance. Deep, dark mahogany to near-black color, nearly opaque with brilliant ruby highlights at the edges. Crowned by a dense, persistent, light tan head that leaves intricate, creamy lacing.

Aroma. High-intensity aroma dominated by fresh, resinous pine, grapefruit peel, and damp earth from the wet hops, backed by light stone fruit esters. Beneath the hop canopy lies a subtle, supportive malt backbone of light milk chocolate, toasted nuts, and a touch of cold-brew coffee, with zero burnt or acrid character.

Taste. Initial impression reveals a burst of resinous pine, citrus zest, and herbal hop flavor. A restrained, debittered malt presence provides smooth flavors of dark chocolate and light caramel, avoiding any harsh, roasted, or ashy bite. Medium-high bitterness is clean and assertive but not astringent, balancing a dry, crisp finish with a lingering, pleasant piney-and-cocoa aftertaste.

Mouthfeel. Medium body with a smooth, velvety texture. Carbonation is moderate, lending a crisp edge. A very light, well-integrated alcohol warmth is present without any hot or fusel qualities, ending with virtually zero astringency.
