Brick Brewery Peckham Rye

This American Amber Ale presents a vibrant interplay between specialty grains and classic hops. The inclusion of 18% Rye malt imparts a distinctive dry, biscuit quality that elevates the malt base. Rich malts provide a foundation of caramel character, perfectly countered by the assertive hop profile. Chinook hops deliver layers of sharp citrus, resinous pine, and a hint of spice, while Cascade adds a delicate floral lift and further citrus complexity. Fermented with clean US-05 yeast to ensure every nuance is showcased, the beer finishes with a balanced bitterness and a crisp, spicy grain edge typical of its unique grain bill.
Appearance. Deep amber to coppery-brown in color with a subtle reddish hue. Topped by a moderately large, off-white head with good retention and light lacing. Generally clear, though the high rye content may contribute a very faint, characterful haze.
Aroma. Moderate intensity featuring a blend of resinous pine and grapefruit citrus from the Chinook and Cascade hops. A secondary layer of peppery, spicy rye and toasted biscuit malt character is evident, complemented by a moderate caramel sweetness. Fermentation is clean with no significant esters.
Taste. The initial impression is one of malty caramel sweetness, quickly joined by a prominent bready and biscuit malt flavor. High rye content introduces a distinctive spicy, grainy dryness. Hop flavors of citrus zest and forest pine are moderate to high, leading to a moderately-high bitterness that balances the malt. The finish is clean and dry with a lingering floral and spicy hop aftertaste.
Mouthfeel. Medium body with a slight crispness from the rye addition. Carbonation is moderate to high, contributing to a lively and smooth mouthfeel. At 4.7% ABV, there is no perceptible alcohol warmth, and the beer remains free of astringency.

Made with Rye malt to add a dry and biscuit quality to the beer. With a caramel character, a bit of pine, citrus and spice from the hops this red ale sits right at home in our Foundation Range. Citrus on the noce with dry, spicy characteristics, rich and full body from North American hops, medium bitterness balanced with rich, caramel flavours and a residual sweetness. It’s a beer that would pair nicely with a mature cheddar or BBQ’d meats.
