This robust Black IPA presents a complex interplay between a deep, toasted malt foundation and assertive Pacific Northwest hops. The base of Maris Otter and Munich malts provides a rich, nutty, and biscuit-like depth, while Crystal and Caramalt add subtle layers of toffee that soften the finish. High-intensity aromas of resinous pine and grapefruit arise from the combination of Chinook and Simcoe, complemented by the vibrant floral and orange zest notes of Amarillo hops. Despite its dark hue, the beer maintains the high drinkability and dry finish of an American IPA, balancing firm bitterness with a smooth, medium-bodied mouthfeel and a clean fermentation profile.

Appearance. Dark brown to nearly black in color (SRM 35). Features a persistent, moderate-sized light tan head with fine lacing. Clarity is clear, though appearing opaque due to the depth of color.

Aroma. High intensity hop aroma dominated by resinous pine, grapefruit, and citrus. Secondary notes of floral orange and a hint of spice. The malt character is moderate-low, presenting as toasted bread, light nuttiness, and a background hint of caramel. Clean fermentation with no notable esters.

Taste. Initial impression is a punch of hop-forward bitterness and resin. Hop flavors of pine and grapefruit zest are prominent. The malt flavor provides a supportive backbone of toasted biscuit and light caramel without any burnt or ashy harshness. Bitterness is firm and assertive, typical of the style. The finish is dry and clean with a lingering resinous aftertaste and a touch of dark bread crust.

Mouthfeel. Medium body with a smooth, slightly creamy texture. Carbonation is moderate. Displays very light alcohol warmth consistent with its 6% ABV. No significant astringency.
