The addition of vibrant passion fruit provides a necessary acidic counterpoint to the heavy, honeyed base. Six months in ex-Barleywine Blanton’s barrels imparts a sophisticated layer of toasted oak, vanilla, and a hint of residual malt complexity. Each sip reveals a harmonious blend of tropical brightness and deep, spirit-forward warmth, reflecting the intricate influence of the bourbon-soaked wood. Appearance. Deep gold to rich copper with amber highlights (SRM 10-18); still with no head or lacing; brilliant clarity despite the fruit additions; prominent legs (tears) are visible on the glass, indicating high viscosity.
Aroma. High intensity; prominent esters of ripe banana and floral white peach; tropical, tangy passion fruit notes; rich honey base with secondary aromas of vanilla, caramel, and charred oak from the Blanton’s barrels; subtle oxidative notes of dried fruit akin to a matured English Barleywine.
