This idiosyncratic American IPA offers a unique sensory voyage, merging aggressive coastal hopping with a distinct maritime influence. The 7.1% ABV provides a steady warmth that carries an intense citrus and pine resin profile, typical of the style but deepened by the addition of distilled sea-salt and buckweed. Notes of sun-drenched citrus and sharp tropical fruit collide with a subtle, mineral salinity and a whisper of rum-infused depth. The finish is assertively bitter and bracingly dry, evoking the spray of the North Sea while maintaining the clean, hop-forward integrity of a classic craft India Pale Ale.
Appearance.Deep gold to light reddish-amber in color (8–12 SRM). It maintains a medium-sized, off-white head with excellent persistence and fine, persistent lacing. Clarity is brilliant with no significant haze.
Aroma.Aroma intensity is high, featuring prominent notes of grapefruit, resinous pine, and tropical mango. A distinct mineral salinity, reminiscent of sea spray, is layered over a low, crackery malt character. A subtle, spicy rum-like sweetness and herbal notes from the buckweed provide unique complexity.
Taste.Initial impression is high hop bitterness followed by flavors of orange peel, pine, and resin. A mid-palate mineral quality from the sea-salt enhances the perceived crispness. The buckweed adds a faint, tart herbal edge. Malt is low but supportive, with a light toasty graininess. The finish is very dry and assertively bitter with a lingering hoppy aftertaste.
Mouthfeel.Medium body with a smooth, slightly slick texture. Carbonation is medium-high, providing a lively, effervescent sensation. A gentle, smooth alcoholic warmth is present but well-integrated.
