Brewdog Jack Hammer
Jack Hammer is an unapologetic American IPA designed to push the boundaries of bitterness. It features a relentless hop profile driven by Amarillo, Centennial, Citra, Columbus, and Simcoe. The experience begins with an explosive aroma of fresh grapefruit, resinous pine, and ripe peach. Visually, it presents a deep amber hue with a slight haze. The palate is dominated by a crushing, sharp bitterness that defines the style's extreme end, supported by a lean Extra Pale malt base with faint caramel notes. This beer concludes with a signature bone-dry, lingering finish that leaves a persistent, resinous sting on the tongue.
Appearance. Deep amber to light reddish-amber (SRM 10-14); thick, off-white head with high persistence and lacing; slightly hazy appearance.
Aroma. High intensity hop-forward aroma featuring pungent grapefruit, resinous pine, and stone fruits like peach and apricot. Low, clean, grainy maltiness with a subtle hint of toasted caramel; fermentation is clean with negligible esters.
Taste. Initial impression is an aggressive wave of hop bitterness. Intense hop flavors of pithy grapefruit and dank resin dominate the palate. Low malt flavor provides a clean, bready, and light caramel support. Bitterness is very high and piercing, far exceeding standard style expectations. The finish is very dry, long, and sharply bitter with a lingering resinous aftertaste.
Mouthfeel. Medium body with a smooth texture; medium-high carbonation. Noticeable but well-integrated alcohol warmth; significant hop-derived astringency that contributes to a puckered, dry sensation.
